01/28/2019- Economic development is a phrase that in the minds and the mouths of many Menominee County officials and they may be taking steps to facilitate a deeper conversation about it. County Administrator Jason Carviou brought a proposal to the County Board to establish an Economic Development Committee that would be added to the county’s current roster of standing committees. Carviou says economic development is a high-priority item for him and the proposed committee would provide the necessary oversight to develop those types of new policies.
The committee would be comprised of three county commissioners, the County Administrator and Treasurer, and the Executive Director of the Menominee Business Development Corporation. Commissioner Larry Phelps supports the idea and its push to increase transparency and communication.
Carviou suggested the committee would meet quarterly or more often as needed. The proposal was sent to the County’s Executive Committee for consideration.
