08/20/2019- As one Menominee police officer steps down, another steps in. Retired Police Captain Rick Hansen was honored at Monday night’s Menominee City Council meeting for his 20 years of service to the community. Police Chief Brett Botbyl says Hansen began with the department in April of 1999 and proved to be an exemplary officer with strong work ethic and an impressive wealth of knowledge. He adds that during his two decades of service, Hansen received several awards and special recognitions.
After presenting Hansen with his official retirement sleeve, Mayor Jean Stegeman swore in the City’s newest police officer. Andrew Leinonen comes to the department from the Hannahville Tribal Police Department, but he’s no stranger to the area. Leinonen is a Menominee native and a graduate of Northern Michigan University with a degree is criminal justice and psychology.
