02/27/2020- Charges have been filed against a 20-year-old Menominee man in connection with a drugged driving accident that killed another person last year. Kane Richard is facing felony counts of operating under the influence of drugs causing death and reckless driving causing death for the October 2019 accident in Lake Township. Prosecutors allege Richard failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of County Roads 356 and 577 and crashed into another vehicle, killing one of its passengers, 29-year-old Derek Bryant of Vulcan. A blood sample taken from Richard and analyzed by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab showed Richard had both THC and Diazepam in his system at the time of the accident. If convicted, he’ll face up to 15 years in prison on each of the charges against him.
