Michigan High School Winter contact sports, including basketball and wrestling will be able to finally start their seasons.  Governor Gretchen Whitmer made the announcement…

MHSAA Executive Director Mark Uyl says basketball and hockey may begin contact practices and games on Monday.  Wrestling matches may begin February 12th.  For boys and girls basketball there will be six weeks of regular season between before the district tournaments.  MHSAA is allow teams eliminated from the tournament to continue to regular season games until the tournament ends.

Uyl says in most cases, masks will be required…

Wrestlers will be required to take day-of-competition rapid tests, but will not be required to mask up.  Uyl says there may be an option in basketball to not wear masks while in active participation if they are tested day-of-competition but that will not be confirmed until the state releases additional clarifications this weekend.

Teams had planned on starting February 1st, but the state had pushed that date out to February 21st until Thursday’s announcement.
