05/10/2019- It’s Person of the Year times a dozen or so. The Marinette Menominee Area Chamber of Commerce held their annual Dinner and Awards Celebration last night where they named the #MyMarinetteMenominee group as the recipient of the 2019 Ron Wipfli Person of the Year award. Those nominating the organization said the movement, which started last fall as an effort to have the Twin Cities selected for the latest season of Small Business Revolution, united Marinette and Menominee as they never before had been. Kim Brooks and Keith Killen spearheaded the project. Brooks says although the SBR outcome wasn’t what they had hoped for, what the area gained will last much longer.
Killen says for him and many others, the #MyMarinetteMenominee movement isn’t about the now, rather, it’s about laying the groundwork for a community that will continue to develop and flourish for generations to come.
Other award recipients last night included Wendy Baron for the Achievement in Education Award, Pete Mayhew and the MDBA for the Menominee Community Service Awards, and R.W. Fernstrum and Company who was named Employer of the Year.
