08/27/2018- Naval crews will put their skills to the test this week not on the water, but in the kitchen. The Best Western Riverfront Inn is hosting a wing sauce competition this Thursday for the sailors assigned to the littoral combat ships built locally at the hotel’s Avenue Bar and Grill. Lexi Wilson is the hotel’s Back Office Manager. She says the event lets the winning crew leave something behind to be remembered by.
The wing sauce competition has been held at least half a dozen times and the winning recipe remains on the restaurant’s menu until the next contest takes place. Wilson says many crews hear about the wing competition before they even get to Marinette and once they’re here, they don’t waste any time working to perfect their recipe.
Crews competing in Thursday’s competition are from the future USS Wichita and the future USS Sioux City.
