10/25/2019- Music from Sousa to Sedaka will fill auditorium at the Marinette High School this Sunday as the NEW Concert Band takes the stage for their annual fall concert. The community band is in its 27th season and conductor Glen Reinke says they aim to perform a wide variety of pieces that will have guests at the edge of their seat and singing along.
“We want to make sure that it is music for the entire family so it’s not just one style that might appeal to just one segment of our audience. But, the most important thing that we try to do is to make sure that we pick selection that allows the band to be successful. And that’s no different than when you teach high school kids- if you don’t put music in front of them where the kids can succeed, or in this case, the adults can succeed, it’s not going to be pleasurable for the audience or for our musicians.”
There are 82 members performing in this weekend’s concert. Reinke says they come from all different backgrounds and all over the region and the one thing that unites them is their love of music.
“It is really good. It’s amazing how fortunate we are to continue doing what we do with such a talented group of people. They’re easy to work with, they’re a fun group of people. They’re great people and they’re great musicians so it’s just, it’s easy.”
The band is always welcoming new members and those interested can get more information at new-concert-band-dot com. Sunday’s concert begins at 3:30. Tickets are available only at the door and cost $5 dollars for adults and $2 for students.
