10/14/2020- A Marinette County deputy was one of four people seriously injured in a crash in Montana last weekend. K9 handler Spencer Elias, along with Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Nystrom, and friends Austin and Branden, were traveling to Idaho for an elk hunting trip when they lost control of their mini bus camper after hitting an elk in Montana and went off an embankment. Elias sustained head, neck, and back injuries and had to undergo surgery for the broken vertebrae in his back immediately after he was taken to the hospital. The other three men are also said to have suffered significant injuries and broken bones. A GoFundMe has been established to help offset some of the medical expenses for the men and is already more than halfway to its $85000 goal.
