Marinette County added another 55 COVID-19 positives over the weekend as the case count rose to 2732 by Sunday afternoon. 25 Marinette County residents have died from the virus and, with per capita rates climbing both locally and across the state, health officials are urging people to limit their holiday celebrations and hunting trips to members of their own household. Governor Tony Evers declared a new public health emergency Friday and extended Wisconsin’s mask mandate for an additional two months. Evers and Wisconsin DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm say that the surge in cases is overwhelming hospital workers. Over a third of Wisconsin hospitals are reporting a critical staff shortage and 42% of hospitals expect a critical staff shortage in a week. 86% of hospital beds in Northeast Wisconsin were unavailable as of Sunday.
