07/14/2020- The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Menominee County is rapidly climbing as COVID-19 restrictions tighten back up locally and across the state. The positive case count for COVID-19 stands at at least 41 and has risen sharply over the past few weeks. Menominee County has the second highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the UP, behind Marquette County who has almost 90 positive cases. Mike Snyder is the Health Officer for Public Health Delta & Menominee Counties and he says the reason behind the spike is two-fold.

Fortunately, no COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in Menominee County since the start of the outbreak and Snyder says 9 individuals are considered to have recovered from the virus, though that designation does not necessarily mean these people are in the clear.

A community testing site staffed by the Michigan National Guard will take place in Menominee on Saturday, July 25th. While details for that effort are still being finalized, Snyder says resident testing will be offered free of charge. More information will be released as it becomes available.
