Marinette County residents have a pair of opportunities to weigh in on local deer hunting activity. The Wisconsin DNR will host virtual public meeting for Marinette County December 8th at 7 p.m. to discuss deer management and a separate virtual public hearing December 9th at 6 p.m. on the current white-tailed deer hunting season. Every three years, County Deer Advisory Councils provide recommendations to the DNR that help determine the herd size objective for their county. The fall of 2020 marks the end of the last three-year cycle and meetings are being held this winter to determine the herd size objectives for the next three years. Following the preliminary meeting, the DNR will hold an online public comment period on each county’s management recommendations January 4 through the 13th. Each council then reconvenes in late January and finalizes their recommendations, which will be shared with the Natural Resources Board in February. You can get more information on both of these upcoming meetings on the Wisconsin DNR’s website.
