09/21/2020- Marinette is still sitting on about $24000 worth of old dump card funds left unclaimed by residents after the city switched to a new payment system earlier this year. Finance Director Jackie Miller reported to Marinette’s Finance Committee last week that even after multiple opportunities for residents to claim their refunds in June and July, only a fraction of those refunds were actually handed out. More than half of those funds belong to individuals whose address cannot be confirmed, and any money not claimed will eventually be turned over to the state. The Finance Committee agreed that, through at least the end of the year, a cash box will be placed at Marinette’s Community REC Center where residents can go to get their refund, as well as receive a new City Dump card if they haven’t already done so. Those eligible residents can also expect to receive another letter from the City detailing their refund amount and procedure to claim it.
