10/01/2020- If you could use some extra company during the coronavirus pandemic, the Menominee Animal Shelter has your opportunity to bring home a new companion this week. The Bissel Pet Foundation is once again sponsoring the Empty the Shelters event at the Menominee Animal Shelter, which will be held by appointment only today through Saturday. There are currently 22 adoptable cats and three dogs there waiting on their forever homes and animal caretaker Ruth Smith says the Bissel Pet Foundation’s support will cover a portion of adoption fees over these three days, lowering them to just $25 each, but residents will need to have a pre-approved application on file.

Smith says during the COVID-19 pandemic they have offered assistance to families with pets who struggled to afford to care for those animals and fortunately avoided any real increase in the number of surrenders being made during that time. However, their operations rely heavily on community donations and this year, they’re feeling the pinch.

Those wishing to set up an appointment for the Empty the Shelters event should contact the Menominee Animal Shelter at 906-864-PAWS. Those who may not be looking to add another furry friend to their family but wish to support the shelter can also do so through monetary or supply donations.
