04/01/2020- Plans are moving forward for a federally funded road project in the Niagara community. The City is seeking about $450000 of the $900000 Marinette County has access to through the Community Development Block Grant Close Program. The County must apply for the money and projects eligible for this funding must be located in communities with a greater than 50% low- to moderate income population. The funds can be used for public facilities, housing and rehabilitation conversion, economic development, and broadband access initiatives. County Administrator John Lefebvre says Niagara would put the grant towards a project to redevelop some corridors through the city to offer increased safety and better pedestrian access.
The total cost of the proposed project is more than $500000. Acting on behalf of the County Board, the Executive Committee Tuesday signed off on the CDBG application submission. CDBG funding is administered by Wisconsin’s Department of Administration’s Division of Energy, Housing, and Community Development and if the project is ultimately approved, work will likely begin mid-year.
