Groundwater sampling done by Tyco shows new evidence of PFAS compounds north of the company’s Fire Technology Center in Marinette. JCI/ Tyco recently collected groundwater samples around the City of Marinette to refine the groundwater model that was recently sent to the Wisconsin DNR. The company says these groundwater results are consistent with their existing groundwater model, with one notable exception. One sample that was taken north of the FTC shows a PFAS level exceedance and JCI/Tyco says the are investigating that result. PFAS, used locally in the manufacturing and test of JCI/Tyco’s firefighting foam, is believed to cause a host of health issues if ingested by humans, including impacts to the liver, thyroid disease, decreased fertility, auto-immune disorders, and some cancers.
