06/29/2020- Unemployment is headed in the right direction in Menominee County following the sudden, severe spike caused by COVID-19. The jobless rate in Menominee County in May was at 12.7%. That’s the second lowest rate in the state behind Dickinson County’s 12.3% and the local rate was also down from the 14.5% unemployment recorded in Menominee County in April. Joblessness one year ago in the county stood at 3.4%. Michigan’s statewide unemployment rate also fell in May- down to 20.7% from April’s 23.6%, while unemployment in Michigan in May of 2019 was at just 3.7%
