06/22/2020-April’s election saw a surge in the number of absentee ballots cast both locally and statewide and Marinette’s City Clerk’s Office is gearing up for more of the same for August and November. City Clerk Lana Bero said Marinette had few issues with absentee voting in the spring election except for a small number of ballots that reportedly weren’t delivered to residents on time. She says to prevent that issue in the future, the Wisconsin Elections Commission is rolling out a new feature on absentee ballots to help keep better track of them.

The WEC is expected to mail a letter to residents ahead of the November election explaining absentee voting options and including an application to receive an absentee ballot by mail. Bero adds that the timeframe for early voting will also likely be expanded in Marinette for the August election.

In April Marinette had more than 1500 residents vote absentee.
