07/24/2020- Unemployment continues to work its way back down in Marinette County as more businesses reopen following the COVID-19 pandemic. June’s local jobless rate came in at 10.3% and while that’s the 11th worst in the state, last month’s figures are down more than 4.5 percentage points from the 14.9% unemployment recorded in Marinette County in May. Joblessness in Marinette County one year ago stood at just 4.4%. Statewide unemployment in June averaged about 8.5%- well below May’s 12.1%. Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Caleb Frostman said while road to full economic recovery will be long and challenging the continued month-over-month progress is encouraging for Wisconsin’s workers and employers.
