The Marinette Plan Commission Wednesday approved conditional use permits and site plans for additions to Merryman and Park Schools and for a new staff parking lot at Merry School.  The projects are part of the $31 million dollar right sizing in the Marinette School District approved by voters last fall. A request for bids is going out Tuesday with bids due back on June 3rd.  Ground should be broken in mid to late June, with the additions to be completed in time for the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.

The Plan commission also recommended to the city council an ordinance that would regulate the use of storage containers in the city.  Storage or cargo containers would be banned in residential areas, would be allowed in business districts with a permit, and used in industrial areas without a permit, although there would be several restrictions on their use, including being stacked no more than two high.

The proposed ordinance would ban not only cargo containers being used for storage in residential areas but also railroad cars, truck vans, converted mobile homes, travel trailers, recreational vehicles, bus bodies, vehicles, and similar items or structures originally built for purposes other than storage.

The proposed ordinance still needs city council approval.
