The Marinette School District’s Rightsizing Project is quickly moving from the design phase to the bidding phase.  In November, district voters passed a nearly $31 million dollar referendum to consolidate the district’s six buildings to four.  Sommerville Architects have been busy developing the plans for additions and other renovations to the Merryman and Park Schools.  Meanwhile, C D Smith which is serving as the construction management firm has been monitoring the designs and doing cost estimates. So far, the estimated costs are falling within the referendum figure.  C D Smith expects to go out for bids in mid May, with bids due three weeks later. It’s expected ground will be broken on the additions in late June.   The construction is due to be finished in time for the 2022-23 school year.

The Marinette School Board voted this week to rename the remaining elementary schools when the rightsizing goes into effect for the 2022-23 school year,  Merryman school will become the Marinette Primary School, serving early childhood through 1st grade, while Park will become the Marinette Intermediate School for 2nd through 4th grades.  The Middle and High Schools will retain their existing names.
