05/14/2020- Another extension of the Stay Home, Stay Safe orders in Michigan through May 28th means Menominee County will not be opening county campgrounds on May 16th as previously planned. The County is now tentatively rescheduling the opening of the campgrounds at Shakey Lakes Park, Kleinke Park, and River Park north of Menominee for May 29th, unless it’s otherwise ordered by the State that the campgrounds must remain closed beyond this date. Some County Commissioners said Tuesday they felt the County should keep the May 16th opening date, despite the EO extension, but County Administrator Jason Carviou suggested that could come with some serious and long-term consequences.
The County will begin taking reservations by phone on June 1st. At this time, no reservations will be taken for pavilion rentals at any of the Menominee County parks and campers should be aware other amenities typically offered at the parks may also be limited. All park patrons will be asked to continue to adhere to social distancing practices recommended by the CDC and to limit the size of their camping parties to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
