Fewer Menominee students will have to worry about food insecurity and how that could impact their learning thanks to a grant from the M&M Area Community Foundation. Through the Foundation, Menominee Area Public Schools has been awarded a $3,000 grant for their MAPS CARES program. MAPS CARES is a volunteer group of Menominee Area Public Schools employees who provide food for families in need within the Menominee School District. The program offers healthy classroom snacks to students K-12 throughout the school day and, with the onset of the COVID-19 and the additional economic hardship it has put on residents, MAPS CARES is also offering weekend meals for some families across their 3 buildings. MAPS CARES representatives say hunger can cause many problems, including decreased levels of concentration and energy, which can lead to a decline in classroom performance.
