Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is urging customers who are behind on their energy bills to contact the energy company as soon as possible to avoid disconnection.
Per the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, the state’s residential disconnection moratorium will expire April 15. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, WPS has worked with its customers by offering enhanced payment plans and help with heating assistance. Because of the company’s efforts, less than 1% of WPS customers are at risk for disconnection.
Customers who are behind on their energy bill should visit wisconsinpublicservice.com or call WPS at 800-450-7260. WPS employees can help arrange a payment plan and connect customers to financial assistance options.
Some customers may qualify for energy assistance through the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP). In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, eligibility requirements have been adjusted to allow additional customers to receive heating and electric assistance quickly.
