A resolution has yet to be reached regarding the construction issues with Marinette’s Community Rec Center. Tuesday, the City’s Common Council discussed the matter in closed session and met again in open session only to approve several pay requests for various aspects of the project. Council did vote to table two requests from Scherer Construction, the facility’s construction management company, until the provided documentation is corrected. Some of the rec center’s exterior paneling was improperly installed, further delaying the facility’s opening date, which had already been pushed back due to bouts of severe winter weather. Mayor Steve Genisot says the City will continue to work with Scherer to mitigate the construction issues and the rec center is now tentatively scheduled to open in June, though that remains dependent on when the two parties are able to reach a resolution. Genisot says it is still unclear whether or not the problems with the exterior panels will affect the overall cost of the project.
