01/31/2020- Two Wisconsin lawmakers have introduced new bipartisan legislation to address PFAS contamination. On Thursday, State Senator Dave Hansen and Representative John Nygren brought forth the bill which they say will help the state better regulate PFAS chemicals and ensure clean drinking water for residents in contaminated areas. This bill, which is supported by the DNR, provides the regulatory framework to clean-up and stop the flow of PFAS into the environment and also funds additional research to help Wisconsin stay ahead of future contamination issues and creates a grant program to assist local units of government with the clean-up of existing PFAS contamination. Nygren says while it is unfortunate Marinette and Peshtigo have become the epicenter of PFAS contamination in the state, the bill shows lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are committed to working together to solve this complex regulatory issue.
