06/24/2019- For 125 years, the Peace United Church of Christ has stood at the corner of 10th and Elizabeth in Marinette and a big celebration is being planned for this weekend to celebrate that anniversary. The congregation will hold several events this Saturday and Sunday to honor the church and its storied history. Church member Doug Oitzinger says the celebration begins Saturday at 4:00 with a retelling of the history of Peace Church, which began as a German immigrant church in 1892 and moved to its current location in 1894. He says it’s a chance to reflect on some of the accomplishments and tribulations the church has seen over the years.
While they may not be the oldest church in town, they’re pretty close. That means they’ve been a part of the lives of many families for generations and Oitzinger says, member or not, everyone is invited to this weekend’s celebration.
The celebration also includes dinner and musical performances Saturday night, as well as a special worship service, blessing of the building, and ice cream social on Sunday.
