01/04/2019- Although it was the deadliest fire in American history, some say the Peshtigo Fire of 1871 lacks the nationwide recognition it deserves. City of Peshtigo officials are looking to change that just in time for the 150th anniversary of the fire and they need the public’s help. In commemoration of the sesquicentennial, the City will be holding a contest to design a stamp honoring the event and the lives lost in the fire. Entries are due by January 31st and can be submitted to Peshtigo City Hall. Artists are asked to include their name, phone number, and address on the entry. The top two designs will then be submitted to the United States Postal Service with hopes of being chosen to become a Forever Stamp. The sesquicentennial of the Peshtigo Fire will be October 8th of 2021.
