09/26/2019- An area state forest has a new name following a vote Wednesday by the Wisconsin DNR. The Peshtigo River State Forest will now come to be known as Governor Earl Peshtigo State Forest. Tony Earl served one term as Wisconsin’s governor from 1983 to ’86 and before that was a DNR secretary and served in the state Assembly. The 83-year-old former governor is now a member of Common Cause Wisconsin, a nonpartisan government watchdog group. The Peshtigo River State Forest is Wisconsin’s newest state forest- established in 2001- and features more than 25 miles of river and 9200 acres of forest land.
