09/22/2020- Another setback on Menominee’s path to potentially legalizing the sale of recreational and medicinal pot within the city. City Council was set to hold a public hearing and take a vote on an ordinance regarding the permitting of marihuana establishments Monday, however, it was suggested at the onset of that meeting that those items be removed from the agenda because the newest version of the ordinance had not been made readily available to all council members or the public. While City Manager Tony Graff argued any changes made to the document were minor and only meant to classify application dates, the Council voted 8 to 1 to scratch the topic from Monday’s meeting. Menominee Business Development Corporation Executive Director Nancy Douglas expressed disappointment at the additional delay, indicating she’s been in conversation with at least three individuals who may be interested in seeking marihuana sale licenses within Menominee. Other council members said they’d like to see that public hearing and possible council action rescheduled at a special meeting as soon as possible.
