03/20/2020- The City of Marinette is joining other municipalities across the state and the region declaring a public health emergency amid the rapid spread of the coronavirus. The decision was made at a special meeting of the Common Council Thursday, and reduces the number of council members necessary to constitute a quorum and grants the Mayor, or, in his absence, the Council President, special powers to act on behalf of the Council when necessary. The resolution also closes off public access to the majority of Marinette’s municipal facilities, including City Hall, except for the purpose of voting and essential functions by appointment. City employees are encouraged to limit face-to-face interaction with one another and the public and all meetings will be conducted by phone video conference whenever possible. The emergency declaration will be in place for 60 days unless extended by Common Council.
