03/16/2020- The Wisconsin DNR and Michigan’s EGLE are hosting public informational meetings next month on a proposal to delist the Lower Menominee River Area of Concern. The meeting on the April 8th will be held at the UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus cafeteria from 5 until 7 p.m., while another meeting on the 9th is scheduled for 6 until 8 p.m. at Murray’s Irish Pub and Grill in Menominee. Both events will offer more information about the pollution cleanup and habitat restoration work that was accomplished in the Lower Menominee River AOC and what the delisting process entails. Environmental harm by pollution from coal tar, paint sludge and arsenic previously earned the lower three miles of the river plus areas along the Green Bay shoreline the AOC designation, but all six of the associated Beneficial Use Impairments of the Lower Menominee River have been addressed.
