08/19/2020- Marinette’s Community REC Center provides students a place to get active, but it could play a role in their academics this year, as well. The Marinette School District is proposing a blended learning structure for 6th through 12th grade students which would have them splitting their time between in-person and online instruction. That becomes a concern for families with limited or no internet access, but the City’s Rec Department is now offering up a portion of their facility to help out. This year, at least one of the REC Center meeting rooms will become a study space for students where they can visit, free of charge, and get online with their devices to complete schoolwork. Marinette’s Assistant Rec Director Adrienne Lacey says REC Center staff will be available during this time to assist students in connecting to the web, as well as enforce social distancing in the study space.
