05/08/2020- Marinette County is launching a community COVID-19 testing effort next week. At the request of the county’s Emergency Management division and Public Health Department, a National Guard task force will establish and operate a drive-thru regional specimen site at the Marinette County Highway Shop in Crivitz next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 12th through the 14th. The site is intended primarily for residents of Marinette, Oconto, Florence, and Forest County, but is open to anyone who lives in the state or is employed by a Wisconsin-based company. Emergency Management Administrator Eric Burmeister says any of those individuals who exhibit any one of a number of symptoms of COVID-19 but cannot or have not been tested at a traditional healthcare facility can utilize this service free of charge.
The tests are being supplied and analyzed by Exact Sciences lab out of Madison. Marinette County Public Health Officer Molly Bonjean says the turnaround time on those tests is about 24 to 48 hours.
The community testing site will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each of the three days of operation and there’s no appointment or pre-registration necessary. A total of 15 specimen collection teams from the Wisconsin National Guard have been mobilized across Wisconsin supporting local health departments and the Department of Health Services to increase the state’s COVID-19 testing capacity.
