04/10/2019- Marinette County considers blocking the use of recreational marijuana well before any kind of statewide legislation on the topic even makes it to the floor. The Public Services Committee heard a recommendation Tuesday from Sheriff Jerry Sauve to draft a resolution opposing the legalization of recreational pot. Sauve says he hopes that resolution would preface the establishment of a county ordinance similar to the one the City of Marinette already approved banning recreational marijuana county-wide.
However, County Board Chairman Mark Anderson would instead like to see a referendum on the issue to allow the public a chance to lend their thoughts on a potential resolution.
A motion to draft a resolution opposing the legalization of recreational marijuana failed on a tie vote. The Public Services Committee is expected to take up the conversation of a referendum on the topic at their meeting in May.
