08/10/2018- Voters in Marinette County will decide on the Republican candidate for Sheriff in next week’s Wisconsin Primary Election. Incumbent Jerry Sauve and Fred Popp will face off on Tuesday. Sauve is running for a third term as Sheriff. He says he’s proud of the achievements the department has seen in recent years and, if voted in again, would continue to arrest and prosecute drug offenders in our area. Sauve says it’s his experience and ability to lead that set him apart from his challenger.
Popp feels there’s a need to expand the department’s K-9 program to further crack down on drug trafficking and abuse. He says another one of his priorities if ultimately chosen to lead the department would be to increase positive police presence at the county’s more rural school districts.
Sauve has been with the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office for 34 years. Popp, who’s also an Army veteran, has 28 years of law enforcement experience- 17 of which have been with Marinette County.
