Your morning commute may take a little longer beginning this week as many schools are back in session and school buses are out on the roadways. With the increased activity, it’s important for motorists to do their part to keep students safe as they make their way to and from school. Tom Westlund is the President of Westlund Bus Lines and his number one tip for drivers is simply to pay more attention to the road.
Generally, school buses only engage their yellow hazard lights when picking up and dropping off students within the City of Marinette, but Westlund says there are some particularly dangerous areas where bus drivers will use red lights to bring traffic in both directions to a complete stop.
Failing to stop for a school bus is not only dangerous, but costly as well. Westlund says fines can run between $287 and $387.
