The American Red Cross is experiencing a severe blood shortage as the number of trauma cases, organ transplants, and elective surgeries rise – and deplete the nation’s inventory. Donors of all blood types, especially type O, are urged to make an appointment to give as soon as possible to prevent further impacts to patients. Justin Kern, Communications Director for the American Red Cross of Wisconsin says, “right now we’re really in a severe shortage.”

Kern says, “making an appointment to give blood is the biggest thing right now.”

If you are or are not vaccinated, you can still donate blood to the Red Cross. You simply let them know which vaccination you received when you arrive to donate. For a complete list of donations sites, you can go to the American Red Cross website located at redcrossblood.org
