02/20/2020- The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office is reporting scam attempts targeting sex offenders in the area. Sheriff Jerry Sauve says the sex offenders are being contacted by telephone and told they are in non-compliance and owe money. They’re then directed to call a number set up with a recording identifying themselves as the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Sauve says the number provided is not the Sheriff’s Department’s number and neither his department nor the Department of Corrections operate in that manner. The matter remains under investigation and the public is once again reminded not to send money or provide personal information to anyone over the phone.
