04/02/2020- The housing shortage and PFAS contamination are two of the most talked about issues in Marinette and the City’s Plan Commission has approved site plans for a pair of facilities aimed at addressing each of them. The Commission met Wednesday and first signed off on site plans for the new Trolley Station Terrace- a 45-unit mixed-income housing development NEWCAP intends to build along the 1500 block of Main Street. That approval did come with some contingencies- namely, necessary modifications of some landscape curbing and stormwater management and the approval of a vacation of a portion of an adjacent alley to allow for additional parking. The Plan Commission next reviewed a site plan for a building addition at Johnson Controls on Industrial Parkway which would allow for all of their foam testing to be done indoors and would route the materials used in testing to an on-site wastewater treatment system to keep any of it from entering the City’s sewer system or being released into the ground. The Commission unanimously green-lighted that site plan and representatives with the company say the plan was also approved by the Wisconsin DNR as it relates to stormwater management.
