03/10/2020- Local students are gearing up for an annual campaign to raise awareness about homelessness in our area. The Freezin’ 4 Reasons event is being planned for March 20th and will again be held at the NWTC North Coast Marine Training Center in Marinette. It’s put on by the St Joseph Conference St Vincent de Paul and teens from the Marinette and Peshtigo School Districts who will spend the evening on Main Street and throughout Marinette’s Downtown collecting donations from the public. Jeanne Harper with St. Vincent says all of the money raised is used to support families in need in our area.
Students will get a break from the elements once an hour to hear presentations from area agencies who work directly with the homeless in Marinette and Menominee Counties. They’ll also get a chance to meet with one of the families on the receiving end of that support and Harper says often, that’s when it hits home for these kids.
Around $7000 was raised during last year’s Freezin’ 4 Reasons. Hourly student sponsors and adult volunteers are still needed for this year’s fundraiser and you can sign up or get more information by contacting Harper at 715-923-9549.
