It’s a new effort to be more conscious of what we use and how. The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marinette is set to receive fund from the Community Wide Fund at the M&M Area Community Foundation to support a social enterprise project to benefit the community and environment by recycling unusable clothing, textiles, and accessories, thereby limiting landfill usage. The U.S. generates an average of 25 billion pounds of clothes, shoes, accessories, and textiles or about 82 pounds per person and of that, 85 percent or 21 billion pounds of post-consumer textile waste ends up in landfills. The Foundation’s grant funds will help St Vincent de Paul purchase large capacity reusable cardboard boxes and pallets into which clothing, textiles, shoes, and belts are sorted and then transported to locations where they are recycled.
