Small but mighty…the Stephenson High School Alumni Band is on a quest to find a band director for their school, but first they are going to fill the void by playing together for the first time for some, in over forty years. Alumni member and founder, Ronald Denning, says, “I learned through talking with people that Stephenson School no longer had a band program because they have left the position unfilled.”
Denning says, “the alumni band has been practicing twice a week locally and have been recording the sessions for those who live out of state to play along with.”
Stephenson School has had four band directors from 1968 to 2020. As of now, they are all going to attend the event. As for the Alumni band, they are hoping to play at more events after this evening’s homecoming basketball game; but ultimately, they’re hoping this will encourage someone out there to apply for the vacant band director position, thus bringing back band to Stephenson Highschool and the community.
