At last night’s special Menominee Area Public Schools Board meeting one of the main topics of discussion was whether to move forward with mandating masks for the upcoming school year. While the board did make headway at Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting some board members felt that they needed more information from the local Health Department and the CDC. Board President Derek Butler says, “we as a board would like to know what a mandate versus a recommendation would be, and then we want to keep it as normal as we can.”

Menominee Intermediate School District Superintendent Steve Martin says, “knowing what other school districts are doing across the U.P. will help.”

After a lengthy discussion no action was taken and the board would like to see recent recommendations from the local health department and from the CDC in order to make a determination on how to proceed. The school board will meet again for a special meeting on Monday, August 16th at 6:30 pm to vote on whether masks will or will not be required for the upcoming school year.
