Menominee School Board President Derek Butler addressed the school board earlier this week at their Committee of the Whole meeting with updates regarding the status of the Junior and Senior High School. “Cleaning is going very well,” says Butler. ServPro is in working ten-hours a day, seven-days a week, and they are moving through the building. It’s a daunting task, but the entire building has to be cleaned from the east end to the west end. They’ve set a target date of October 27th to have the cleaning finished and so far, they are on schedule.”
Butler says, “we’re looking to be complete after we demobilize somewhere between seven and nine weeks.”
Last week, the Michigan State Superintendent of Schools met with Butler and others to discuss what options are out there for them. Butler says, “I asked of him three things. Assistance with helping them with the policy issues preventing them to potentially go to Wisconsin as there is a facility that they could use. Funding, how is the district going to pay for this? And lastly, any type of logistical help. Ensuring that the board takes the appropriate steps, is physically responsible, and ensuring we are doing things the right way to get our kids and our staff back into the school as quickly as we can.” Currently, the Michigan State Superintendent has already been in contact with the Wisconsin State Superintendent on how they can work together to bring resolution for the Menominee Junior and Senior High students to potentially use a school in Wisconsin.
