The Menominee River Water Celebration is a free event that is open to the public that helps educate and protect our water and sacred sites from the threat posed by the Back Forty Mine project. Committee Member Mary Hanson says, “the upcoming Water Celebration on Stephenson Island is happening this Saturday, September 16th from noon until 7pm.”

Hanson says, “we have a bucket raffle and the stuff we’ve collected and what the businesses have donated has been outstanding; and our raffle tickets are $10 or three for $20.”

The Celebration will have updates on the mining threat facing the Menominee River, including keynote speaker and longtime environmental advocate, Dr. Al Gedicks of the Wisconsin Resources Protection Council and Allison Werner from the Wisconsin River Alliance, among others. Music will be provided by the Dirty Martini’s from 4pm until 7pm. All Proceeds from the event go to support the mission of the Coalition to SAVE the Menominee River, Inc.
