You hear the music before you see it. The distinct bellows of tubas, melodies of flutes, and pounds of the drums waft through the air during an afternoon rehearsal. For years, the Menominee School District Band Department has been dealing with cracking and breaking drums, dented tubas, rusting trumpets, flutes, and more. This is where the Menominee Downtown Business Association has stepped in to help. MDBA Chairperson Zak Aubert says, “the MDBA BANDRAISER is a way to get parents and students connected with the school that are interested in playing music.”
Aubert says, “originally, I was looking at doing this fundraiser in the Fall. Until I learned that they fit students with instruments in the Spring time so they have time to practice into the Fall; so our timeline is a little more truncated than I originally thought.”
Right now, any business who signs up to be a member of the MDBA, those funds will be allocated towards the Menominee School District Band Department. If you have instruments that you’d like to donate, you may drop them off at Wind Rose North in Menominee.
