07/27/2018- More work could be secured for the employees at the local shipyard. The US House-Senate conference committee released the final Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act this week, which includes funding for three Littoral Combat Ships. While the House defense spending bill called for three LCS, the Senate version of the NAA only funded a single ship and Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, led a bipartisan effort to increase funding for the program. It has not yet been announced how the LCS contracts would be split between Fincantieri Marinette Marine and Austal USA in Mississippi. The NDAA is on track to be passed by the start of the new fiscal year on October 1st.
