09/07/2018- An event being held at the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center next week aims to prevent veteran suicide and help vets tell their story in a unique way. Veterans are invited to take part in workshops that will show them how to convert old military uniforms into handmade paper that can be created into prints, books, and other artwork. September is Suicide Prevention Month and officials with the local VA say transforming something worn during military service into a work of art offers participants the chance to make connections with one another and share their experiences. The workshops take place from 9:00 until 11:00 AM on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 11th and 12th. A third session will also be held on Wednesday from noon until 2:00 PM. The workshops are reserved for veterans, hospital guests, and staff and participants are not required to supply their own uniform. For more information, call 906-774-3300.
