02/26/2020- Some federal assistance could be coming to the UP counties hardest hit by the extreme rain and flooding that hit the area nearly two years ago. The federal government has awarded a $10 million grant to the Michigan DOT to repair flood-damaged roads in Gogebic, Houghton, and Menominee counties for the repair or reconstruction of federal-aid highways and roads on federal lands that suffered serious damage in the 2018 Father’s Day flooding. Eligible projects that could receive financial assistance include emergency repairs to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage, or protect the remaining facilities as well as permanent repairs necessary to restore the highway to its pre-disaster condition.
