07/08/2019- The largest icebreaker on the Great Lakes is making a stop near the place she was built more than a decade ago. The M&M Yacht Club and the Menominee Historical Society have teamed up to bring the United States Coast Guard Cutter MACKINAW to Menominee for a one-day visit. MACKINAW will arrive to the Menominee North Pier, near the lighthouse, early in the morning on Monday, July 15th, and will be open to the public for free tours during the hours of 10:30-11:30 a.m. ; noon-5:30 a.m. ; and 6-8 p.m. No advance arrangements are necessary. During MACKINAW’s visit, the Menominee Historical Society will also have the Menominee North Pier Lighthouse open for free tours between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The USCGC MACKINAW was constructed at Marinette Marine and launched in April of 2005.
